MTS Evolve Prepaid Phone Plans

Overview

MTS Allstream is a subsidiary of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. They are one of Canada's leading telecommunications providers.

Pros: There are a number of plans that fit most calling frequencies. The rates are competitive with most other Canadian carriers.

Cons: The plans can get confusing, especially since rates change once you leave Manitoba.

Plans: MTS Evolve Prepaid divides their services into two tiers: using your phone within Manitoba, and using it across Canada. Their Manitoba tier contains four plans. The Anytime 15/30 plan offers a rate of 36 cents per minute, all the time, including Canadian long distance. The Anytime 60 plan offers an anytime rate of 25 cents. To get the Anytime 60 plan, customers must purchase a 60 dollar airtime card. The Evenings and Weekends plan offers a rate of 2 cents per minute on evenings and weekends, starting at 8 p.m., and 38 cents per minute during peak hours. Canadian long distance calls are also 38 cents per minute. The Daytime plan offers a rate of 25 cents per minute from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 35 cents per minute from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. Long distance calls are the same rate. The Canada tier offers almost the same rates. The Evenings and Weekends plan costs 15 cents per minute, instead of 2 cents, and all Canadian long distance calls are 25 cents each. All calls to the U.S. from Manitoba cost 50 cents per minute.  Read more about MTS Evolve plans

Only had this plan for a month but so far so good. To those interested in texting: there is an option of buying prepaid texting (separate from talk time) for as little as less than a cent per text ($15 for 2500 texts). One caveat - an MTS phone store (actually a franchise) salesman lied to me in insisting that everyone must pay the $25 activation fee. This is only true if you get the MTS store to make the activation. It can easily be done from home.

I agree...the plans are outrageous. I don't use my phone much, but it costs me 15 bucks every few days...and what is with this after 8pm cheaper calling? That's not nice. 6PM! The phone connect well, so I will give them that. Somehow I lose minutes, and not sure how, but they disappear. They are gouging if you ask me.

I've had this service for a year now! I'ts great for my needs? I would like to see lower rates like $5.00 and $ 10.00 Not fair to loose airtime if not used up by end of month?
